Could somebody post the headlight signals? I've heard about them and I've heard that all truckers know them, but they weren't in the state driver's manual for ordinary drivers. There are signals that mean it's OK or not OK to pass. The only signal I know is the one that means there's radar ahead.

Headlights are binary devices: they can only be either ON or OFF
(in the daytime, HI beam or LO beam at night). Therefore to
transmit any amount of information at all, they must be coded much
like a string of 1's and 0's.
That, and the signals must be taken in context. A bit of common
sense goes a long way here. Here's a list of the more popular ones:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Binary code Context Meaning
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
1010 you're driving a big truck "OK you've cleared my front
or pulling big trailer, and bumper -- you can pull in
have just passed signaller now."
10101010 .. you're just tooling along, "Behave yourself -- there's
signaller going the other way a policeman up ahead."
or especially if you are "Be careful -- bicyclist/
approaching blind curve pedestrian/lose animals/
other weird shit up ahead."
11111111 .. dark rural road, signaller "You want high beam? I've
going the other way got high beam, too!"
11101110 .. you're in the left lane, "Move over slow poke!
there's room to the right, You're holding up traffic."
signaller is behind you in
pinko import car with enough
candlepower to bring the
shuttle in for a night landing
10101010 .. two lane road, signaller "Hold STEADY -- I'm pulling
approached you from behind out to pass."
so fast you had to check to
make sure you're not in
reverse
10101010 .. urban street, 3am, you're "Wake up, drunkard! You
blotto, coming home from a are weaving all over
memorable night the road!"
