[u3b.tech] What are optimal SCSI tape blocksizes?

friedl@vsi.COM (Stephen J. Friedl) (01/29/89)

Hi folks,

We just installed a 60mb SCSI cartridge tape drive on our
3B2/400 -- oh happy day -- and wish to tune our backup scripts to
run as fast as possible. Does anybody know the optimal block
sizes for cpio on these devices? An "optimal" response would
include a matrix of blocksizes for 60 and 120mb tape on the /400
and /600 (assuming there is a difference in the latter). For the
time being, we're using 5120-byte blocks...

Please email, I'll summarize & post.

     Steve
