I spent about half an hour on the phone with Hayes tech support today,
trying to get my V series 9600 to talk to anything at 2400 baud. At first,
they couldn't believe that I had the interface to the modem set at 9600, as
I was getting what looked like a login prompt back at the wrong (2400) baud
rate. Eventually, it came out that I have very old firmware. Unlike Telebit,
they asked me to send the whole modem back, and gave me an RMA number for it.
If you're trying to make this work, do an ATI3 and have them check to see if
it is of recent enough vintage to have the buffering necessary.
Side note to 3B2 users, and anyone else who needs to have DCD true all the
time (well, most of the time, to be accurate:) Don't follow Hayes' advice
and type AT&C1 &W! That's for SCO, Microport, and the rest of the world
where DCD means what it says.
