[u3b.tech] 3B2/300 networking using external modem

xchen@caip.rutgers.edu (Bob Mende Pie) (01/26/91)

I need help on networking a 3B2/300 computer using an external
modem for dialups. The modem is a sportster2400 using at command set.
I used the "sysadm uucpmgmt" menu to setup the files. The items in each file
are listed below:

Using devicemgmt tool:

in Devices file: ACU contty - 2400 penril \D

Using systemmgmt tool:

in Systems file: caip Any ACU 2400 1=9089324800 in:--in:(myID) word: (mypasswd)

Using portmgmt tool:

port contty is set to: contty, 2400, bidirectional

I did not use pollmgmt tool, since it is not going to be used.

The calling command and responses are as follows:

#cu -s2400 1=9089324800
(no response, i had to kill the call)

#cu -s2400 19089324800
(no response, i had to kill the call)
#cu -s2400 -l contty
  connect failed: NO DEVICES AVAILABLE
#cu -l culcontty 19089324800
  connect failed: NO DEVICES AVAILABLE
#cu caip
  connect failed: CAN'T ACCESS DEVICE

I also used a vt100 terminal connected to contty to check the baud rate and it
was verified that the contty port is set to 2400. The vt100 was set to 2400
and connected to contty; it worked. Then I reset the vt100 to 9600 and it did
not work. This verified that the contty port was set to 2400 by using the
portmgmt tool.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.
