My thanks to the many people who responded to my original posting about the 5620 DMD terminal and SVR3.x. Here's a brief synopsis of the problem <as I understand it> and the solution: Problem: When installing the DMD Core Utilities on a 3B2/600 running SVR3.2.3, it was not possible to run 'layers', the DMD windowing interface. Any attempt to do so was rewarded with an error message. Cause: With the release of SVR3, AT&T introduced a new set of Windowing Utilities. The xt driver included with those Utilities is substantially different from that which was included with the original DMD Core Utilities. These differences rendered the DMD unusable in 'layers' mode. Solution: a) Remove the Windowing Utilities <if installed>. b) Remove the DMD Core Utilities <if installed>. -- These steps ensure a clean load in steps c and d below. c) Install the DMD Core Utilities. d) Install the Windowing Utilities. -- The proper xt driver from Windowing will overwrite the driver loaded with DMD Core. e) A clean reboot will put the new installation in place. f) Ensure that /usr/bin is placed in the user's PATH before /usr/DMD. Feel free to direct any further comments or questions to me.
