[comp.windows.ms] Problems with WinUndoc.H

I have been having problems using some of the functions in WinUndoc.H.
The file that Petzold recommends for doing long string functions and 
disk I/O.

For a while, I was getting a now you see it, now you don't with some of the
extended string functions.  I was never able to get any of the file
I/O functions to work at all.

Is this a common problem, or could I be doing something wrong?
