[comp.windows.ms] Font Itis

pcb@usl.usl.edu (Peter C. Bahrs) (11/28/88)

Our goal in using MS Windows is complete,,,, hardware independence for
out applications.

Except for a few fine tuning sessions, this goal seems realistic...

however, I NEVER KNOW EXACTLY WHICH FONT I AM GOING TO GET and, yes, when
I say print vertical and rotated, this is what I mean.
For example, we have a fully blown HP LaserJet (memory, fonts ). Problems
arise when the application wants to print for instance Roman and the
user decides that Helvitica is needed from the driver!!!!!!!&^%@#^&$%&^@%#&^%@

I think the font selection and specification from the programmers point
of view is MS Windows largest weakness.

But in spite of everything, EGA, VGA, CGA, HGC, CompaqPlasma, PaintJet,
LaserJet, TI855, TI850, HP7475, HP 7450? all produce the correct
version of the desired output after sufficing some qualities from each.
