[comp.windows.ms] PaintJet, Plotter users - here's your chance!

andrea@hp-sdd.HP.COM (Andrea K. Frankel) (12/30/88)

We are in the process of revising the Microsoft Windows drivers for the
HP PaintJet and HP plotters, and you are invited to get your licks in.

Do you have any unreported (to us) bugs, frustrations, or "wouldn't
it be nice if..." ideas you'd like to share with us? We can't promise
we can accomodate them all, but we'll definitely pay attention to your
inputs and do what we can.

The plotter driver is in reasonable shape, other than a few known
bugs which are being fixed (and the simulation of raster replace, or
shielding, which has already been entered on the wishlist).

For PaintJet, speed enhancements are high on OUR wishlist, and probably
yours as well. We're trying to understand how much of the bottleneck
is in Windows itself (GDI's VRC, spooler, etc.), and how much can be
improved in the driver. There are some known problems with font
mappings, and problems with using large numbers of fonts in PageMaker;
some raster capabilities that got overlooked on the first round; and a
rather irritating 3-pass per character behaviour when printing coloured
text that are all being worked on.

What else should we know about?

Please email me, with as much info as possible (what hardware you're
using, which version of Windows, which applications show the problems
or beg for driver enhancements) ASAP! And if you are interested in
doing some serious Beta testing when the new drivers are ready, give me
some information about you, your company, and your relationship with
Windows (heavy personal use, application writer, in-house MIS,
whatever).

"adTHANKSvance",
