[comp.windows.ms] Glockenspiel's CommonView

Does anyone know anything about Glockenspiel's CommonView
programming library and C++ compiler for MS Windows and Presentation
Manager (OS/2). I read the advertisment in Computer Language and
the product looks attractive. It includes a OOPs library class
system for most (?) Windows calls. It is suppose to manage
the memory for you, and they claim that it provides 100% program
compatiblity with the PM. Other claims include speed increases
and EXE file size reductions. The best news is that it
includes a C++ compiler! I just called them for more information.
Here is their phone number and address:

This product sounds good, but so did Actor! I have Actor, but
do not use it because for the type of programming I do Actor is
not useable. First, Actor programs require a minimum of 70k.
Also, it does not run to well on my old 8086 (yes, I have been
using a 4 Mhz 8086 computer to write Windows programs :-) so
when I ran Windows on a PS/2 50 I think it is fast ) Actor
does not IMHO take advantage of alot of the features of Windows
like have movable memory segements and such. In other words
it tends to be a memory hog, which is a definite no no under
Windows. Also, to make really useful applications with Actor
alot of the existant class structure must be rewritten. One
of my biggest compaints with Actor is that I must still use the
resource compiler to add resources to my programs which means
going back to DOS. You can create resources dynamically just
like you can with C, but then your programs crawl along.
I really did mean to turn this into a Actor bashing sessions, but
Actor is so CLOSE to what is needed for Windows programming. I
still think that it was one of the best $100 I ever spent
(educational discount). However, it is just not the best system
for the type of programming I do :-( :-( If you can get it
on an educational discount DO IT TODAY. On, well, enough of
	this junk!!!

	Danke Sehr
