Just a note those thinking about buying all Pirelli P-77 tires:
I just bought a set of P-77 tires for my BMW 3.0 sedan (large, heavy).
For reference, the car came with Michelin XVS tires, but I changed to
Goodyear NCT's for the last 50k miles.
The P-77's are advertised as a high performance tire that is also
an all season tire. After living with them for a while, I think they are
very good all season tires, but lousy performance tires. The P-77 are very
good in the wet (close to the NCT's), have a 40k mile warranty, and
ride fairly quietly for an all season (noiser than the XVS, quieter than
the NCT's). I would recommend them to anyone who wants to upgrade from
a 'luxury' tire like Continentals, Goodyear Grand Prix's, Mich. XVS/MXLs.
Unfortunately, they don't handle very well in comparison to the
NCT's. Better than the XVS, but just not a high performance tire.
If you want performance, do what the europeans do. Buy a good set
of sports tires for the spring/summer/fall, and a good set of snow tires
for the winter.

P.S. Come spring, I'll start looking for a used set of Goodrich Compt-TA's
for the car.
