We have a user using PageMaker in Windows and are experiencing a few problems. Here goes. The first concerns the screen fonts for say Times and Palatino. Pagemaker and WIndows do not have Palatino as a provided screen font so we downloaded the screen fonts from Compuserv from Adobe forum. Looked fine at first. On closer examination there were problems. a 10 point times font and a 10 point Palatino font were not the same size (no kidding you say). The surprise was that the Times was taller than the Palatino. This was apparent on EGA, VGA, and Herc cards so I don't think it was the screen or anything like that. Now we talked with Microsoft who couldn't help, and Adobe did come through with an explanation. There reason was that the Times font that comes with Windows is wrong. They do not make the four standard screen fonts available on Compuserv so I can't download what they call the right screen font. They do sell a $150 screen font setup that they claim will do the ticket. The second problem is about character positioning. The characters are not in the right place on the screen. The lines ABCDEFabcdef - Palatino 12 point ABDCEFabcdef - Times Roman 12 point do not show up on screen as they do when they print. (1x view) On screen the f in the Palatino line is left of the f in Times line. The reverse is true on the printer. The interesting thing is that the lines ABCDEFabcdefPalatino12point ABCDEFabcdefTimes12point do look right on the screen and on the printer. As soon as you add the " - " in the line (a blank anywhere) text moves around incorrectly. Adobe says it is a Windows problem. This makes it real hard to place a box around some existing text. 1) Anyone heard any different stories about these 2) anyone experienced these 3) anyone tried the $150 Adobe screen fonts? do they work? 4) any other solutions to any of these? P.S. we are printing to PostScript printers. thanks tj
