A friend of mine is embarking on some rapid prototyping under MS Windows with zero previous experience with windows. He just wants to get the job done quickly. Would you recommend ACTOR or Commonview or some other special tool kit for windows. I have heard some good things about ACTOR but what are the other options. Opinions and views are welcome. Thanks for your time.

I've looked at the literature on Commonview and what it seems to do is provide a set of class libraries that make some windows calls. However, it seems to me that some fairly in-depth knowledge of Windows may be required, whereas with Actor it is pretty easy to prototype a simple program. To be fair, Commonview works in an OS/2 environment, but it doesn't include the interactive environment provided by Actor. So, as far as learning Object oriented programming and windows, Actor is probably the easier and quicker of the two to use.
