<> Recently a fellow netter stated that some Toyota dealer said that if a synthetic oil were used in a car under warranty, then this would void the warranty. I can understand how it would void the warranty if the oil used was an incorrect vis- cosity oil, or if the oil was not changed according to the correct change inter-val. But every owner's manual that I have ever looked in says that as long as the oil is of the correct viscosity, and is changed at least as often as the manual recommends, and is labeled SF/CC, then the warranty is OK. Most manuals say nothing about synthetic oils not being suitable. As a matter of fact, the manual that I have for our 1982 Plymouth Reliant encourages the use of fuel eff- cient lubricants. Therefore, I conclude that as long as you follow the manual's recommendations, then I don't see how in the hell they can void your warranty. If I were going to use a synthetic in a car under warranty, I would just change it as often as the manual recommends until the warranty runs out, and make sure that the oil was of the correct viscosity according to the manual. Does anyoneelse out there have any information about dealers discouraging the use of syn-thetic lubricants???? Any comments? Dennis -- Call-Me: Dennis Gibbs, Univ. of Md. Comp. Sci. Center.
