[comp.windows.ms] win 2.11 vs 2.17

philba@microsoft.UUCP (Phil Barrett) (11/27/89)

There have been several comments lately about windows version 2.17.
What has happened is that different programs are interpreting the version
number differently. There is no 2.17 -- this the 11 in 2.11 being viewed
in hex (11h is 17 decimal). Sigh, a minor ambiguity in the sdk docs.

Current release of windows 286 and windows 386 is at 2.11 (or 2.17 for
you decimal folks). You should rely on the File/aBout box in the MS-DOS
Exec for the `correct' version number rather than any other means.

Can someone outline for me the differences in
Windows/286 v2.03
Windows/286 v2.11
Windows/386 v2.11

I am considering moving from a 286 to a 386 machine (at no small
expense), and would also like to get current on windows. How
much does an upgrade cost me?
