I begun to learn how to program under the MS Windows environment. I got the "Programmer's Guide to Windows 2nd Edition" (published by Sybex). What a pain... This book is fairly "new", but has more flaws in it than I would expect for a 2nd edition. The problems don't stem from typos, they stem from omissions! As you limp along, trying to comprehend what's happening, you discover that the authors forgot to tell you about certain things affiliated with their examples: such as any required modifications to the DEF files, variables that should be included in header files, etc. Sure, you can figure them out and that re-inforces the learning process, but still it's a pain. Now I'm stuck in the Dialog box chapter. Their resource file code for the dialog box with radio buttons and check boxes won't compile. If that dialog box description is commented out, everything compiles. I've checked my typing against the book several times. Looks like I'll have to use the Dialog.EXE file to create the dialog box. I got so pissed off at wasting time on this kind of stuff, that I ordered the Charles Penzold book from Microsoft Press last Friday. I hope I don't run into this kind of stuff in that book. -- David Sampson Harris Corporation dsampson@x102a.harris-atd.com Gov't Aerospace Systems Divison uunet!x102a!dsampson (407) 729-7068 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
