[comp.windows.ms] Multiple Data Segments & Expanded/Extended Memory usage.

) (02/09/90)

Hi windowers,

I have 2 questions for you all.

   1. I have heard about using multiple data segments in a windows programs some where. Can anyone explain to me about the technical details for programming. I would like to do this so that I can have many static and global variables in my
program. I would also like to know whether this will help in using LocalAlloc()
to allocated memory junks above 64K.
I may be wrong in my ideas about multiple data segments as I have only
heard of it and I am trying to derive at the uses of it.

   2. I would like to know whether Expanded/Extended memory can be used by
programs directly. What does windows do with Expanded/Extended memory. Can we
use that area also by using special calls to windows.

All the above questions are related to my problem where I want large amount
of memory dynamically for one of the applications I am writing.

Please email to me the replies. I will summarize to the net if there is
enough interest.

Thanks in advance,
