Gentlepersons, I am going on the premise that the only "dumb question" is the one that is not asked. I could be wrong, but here goes. I purchased the following as an IBM package: HARDWARE SOFTWARE IBM PS/2 Model 55SX PC-DOS 4.01 4 Mb RAM MS Windows/386 Ver 2.11 60 Mb Fixed Disk hDC Windows Express 3.5" Diskette Drive hDC Windows Manager Enhanced Keyboard hDC Windows Color Kit IBM/MS Mouse Matesys File Manager IBM 8513 VGA Monitor MS Word Ver 5.0 IBM Proprinter III MS Word for Windows (ordered) MS Excel Ver 2.1 I have a site licensed copy of Procomm 2.4.2 and would buy Procomm Plus. I have MS C Compiler Ver 5.1. I want to purchase a moderate CAD package (I am leaning toward AutoSketch). I will purchase Quicken for household accounting. I will purchase Norton Utilities 4.5. I also have a number of public domain and shareware programs. I wish to partition the hard drive into 4 logical drives as follows: C: - 30 Mb used for software. D: - 15 Mb used for data files. E: - 10 Mb used for data files. F: - 5 Mb used for downloading, un -arc, zip, zoo, and testing. I want a couple of VDISK or RAMDRIVE's for temp files and *.bat files. Now to the question --- Is there a publication from ANYONE the offers tips and techniques regarding the efficacious installation of Windows/386??? Much of the documentation received with software is contradictory. I want to do all the nice things Windows was designed for; switching from one task to another quickly, transfer of data between applications, background communications (up/downloading), etc. This is a new environment for me (I'm used to mainframes and command line PC's), but I think that I am going to like it. -- Chuck Bennett e-mail (any): uchuck@unc.bitnet University of NC uchuck@ecsvax.uncecs.edu Medical CAI uchuck@med.unc.edu Phone: 919-966-1134 uchuck@uncvx1.acs.unc.edu
