[comp.windows.ms] Too much memory

rspangle@jarthur.Claremont.EDU (Randy Spangler) (03/04/90)

I'm running Windows/386 V2.11, and Master Tracks Pro.
I have a Micronics 16MHz motherboard, and 6MB of RAM

Master Tracks Pro runs under windows, as long as it gets ONLY real memory.
If I try to run Windows with about 3MB of RAM free, it makes the rest into
extended and then maps some of it below 640KB, so that around 300KB of the
memory below 640 KB is actually just paged expanded.

Master Tracks refuses to run under these circumstances. It only runs when
all the memory it gets is really below 640 KB (when Command Post tells me
the EMM portion of the low memory is 0 KB).

Is there a way to make sure that Master Tracks gets all the real memory
when it's running, without retarding Windows to around 800KB of expanded
(the cutoff where Windows no longer pages EMM in, with my configuration).

I'd like to be able to use all of my memory for running multiple apps like
PageMaker and some command processors, but still be able to run Master
Tracks without having to exit, change my WIN.INI, and restart Windows.
