[comp.windows.ms] Printers

I am looking to retire my 9 pin Epson, so which ones of the 24pin
printers works best with windows? I have heard that the fonts look
strange on 24pin printers, is this true? and why?

Why not a deskjet? It only costs a little more and the output it 300
dpi! + there's a $150 rebate going on now, so don't pay more than
$500, I actually saw one for $435 (rebate included). And you won't
have to worry about noisy dot-matrix printing again.

The good news is the HP DeskJet+ costs about $650.00 to $700.00 through
Computer Shopper.
Even with the reported $150.00 rebate that is still $500.00 to $550.00.
The bad news is that is twice what I have budgeted and what I have budgeted
is twice what I can afford. So for $300.00 +/- $20 you can get:(from memory)
 EPSON LQ-510
 Panasonic KPX1124
 STAR NX-2400
 ALPS Allegro 24

And a host of other lesser known's. I would like to hear from anyone about
the above mentioned printers, esp how they work with windows. I seem to
remember somthing about 24pin printers and output ratio or fonts not being
so hot. Has this been fixed by any of the above printers?
Email or post if you think it is of general interest. I read this group often.

PS. The rebate is good through June 30th.

The HP Deskjet can be picked up for $485 from CompuAdd. I don't know when
the offer ends. That includes the $150 rebate.

I just got off the phone from CompuAdd (07:15am PST 3/21/90) and the price
they quoted me was $575.00 with $75.00 rebate on the HP DeskJet and
$729.00 with $150.00 rebate. Now either they just had the shortest sale
in history :-) or I called a different CompuAdd (the one in Texas right?)
or maybe its a local store sale? The prices from the local vendors around
here are $549 and $699 with the same $75 and $150 rebate program.
