I wrote a simple font app the other day and found out a lot about this stuff.
It seems that Windows has a sort of arbitrary mapping system.  If you specify
a size font that the device you're displaying on doesn't support, it will
choose what it thinks is the next best thing.  Probably what's happening is
the print driver you're using is giving strange results for that "next best
thing" choice.  Just my best guess.
