[comp.windows.ms] Windows 3.0 bug?

tom@mims-iris.waterloo.edu (Tom Haapanen) (05/28/90)

I'm rather pissed off. I just tried to print a document using Word
for Windows, and got an error message saying that no ports were defined,
so I could not print. Upon closer inspection, I found that someone
had stomped all over my win.ini file: it should have been about 15K long
(thanks to all my soft fonts) but it was 673 bytes, with a bunch of binary
garbage in the beginning. NU was unable to find the old win.ini file
anywhere on disk. :(

Upon closer inspection, I saw the string "solitair" in the binary data at
the beginning. I have a suspicion that the (very entertaining) Solitaire
game included with Win3 may have something to do with this calamity.

Now, for the question: is there any way to generate a new win.ini file
short of re-installing Windows? I promise I'll back up the new win.ini
file pronto!
