I have a 1975 chevy chevell wagon with a 350cu inch engine. My problem is that when the car is cold you have to play with the gas pedal to prevent it from stalling, until the car gets moving. Once moving its ok. The car needs to get throughly hot before this stalling condition stops. The automatic choke works. When starting the car cold the car will run fast as should but as soon as you try to give it gas it wants to die. Any help will be appreciated. I. Glaser x1725

Check the choke unloader on the carburetor. When you set the choke by pressing the accelerator down once the choke should close all the way. Once the engine is started a vacuum servo will open the choke a small amount ---- perhaps 1/8 of an inch. It sounds as if yours may be opening the choke up too far. On your car it is probably a simple matter of bending the linkage to the unloader servo. This assumes you have a Rochester two barrel. Other carburetors have variations on this theme. Good luck.
