I'm trying to install Windows 3.0 on a compaq 386 with expanded memory. The expanded memory manager compaq includes, QEMM, causes setup to abort, so I've made minimal config.sys and autoexec.bat files. Windows installs this way, but will not run. Further testing revealed that when the HIMEM driver is removed, it will run, but only in real mode. Any suggestions regarding installing Windows on this machine would be greatly appreciated.
