Now that I have Win 3.0, I want to replace the SOUND.DLL library with one which would output beeps to MIDI instead of the piddly PC speaker. I know I'm gonna need the DDK for this. Questions: 1) Is there a generic BEEP function that programs call, or are there multiple kinds of beeps ala Macintosh? (Somehow, having the sound of pac-man dying seems appropriate for "Unrecoverable System Error" 2) Someone mentioned getting a free copy of the DDK from Microsoft. I plan on getting the SDK anyway (is it out yet?) via mail-order, but how does one get the DDK for free? 3) I'd originally considered trying to play samples through the PC speaker, but it seems this would be more trouble timing-wise on a multitasking machine. How does WIndows provide for programs that need a few seconds of 100% system resources? -- -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Randy Spangler | The less things change, the | | rspangle@jarthur.claremont.edu | more they remain the same | --------------------------------------------------------------------------
