[comp.windows.ms] Windows 3.0 in Standard Mode

I remember I could run MS-Kermit, Procomm and WordStar 4.0 in a window
(not at the same time) with Windows/286 and my junk 286. But howcome I
can do this anymore with Windows 3.0? Did I miss something in the manual?
Or it can only be done on 386 machines? Any help?
