The MS Windows archive that I maintain at clvax1.cl.msu.edu (35.8.2.1) is in pretty bad shape right now. I apologize for being lax the past few months--I've been off doing other things during the free time that I would normally devote to MS Windows. (I've been programming Macintoshes--kinda adds insult to injury, eh?) Most of the files uploaded to 35.8.2.1 lately are corrupted. This may be due to people using the default ASCII transfer rather than BINARY mode. It could also be due to eccentricities of the Wollongong software on our VAX/VMS system. During the next few weekends starting 21 July, I plan on personally revalidating all the software in the archive, and moving the archive to a genuine Unix system. To prevent future problems, uploads will not be permitted to the new system. 35.8.2.1 will remain available for continuity and to retain upload capability. Hopefully by August the archive will be robust again. I haven't decided what to do about Windows 2 vs. Windows 3 programs, especially since some (most?) Windows 2 binaries can supposedly be marked as Windows 3 compatible and run OK. Ideas welcome. I appreciate any contributions to the archive, especially uuencoded files mailed to me at riordanmr@clvax1.cl.msu.edu Mark Riordan Michigan State University
