[comp.windows.ms] Chaining interrupts

mojo@netcom.UUCP (Morris Jones) (07/14/90)

A consultant of ours claims that he cannot share a hardware interrupt on
the 386 with another device because he will be unable to chain to the
following interrupt. He says he won't be able to tell if the machine is
in real or protected mode.

Well this doesn't make any sense to me. The interrupt handlers are both
installed while the machine is running in real mode, and when the interrupt
occurs during Windows protected mode, then the Windows interrupt handler
should properly pass it along to the installed interrupt service routine.

Does anyone know of a good reason why you would not be able to chain
interrupts on the 386?

Please respond by mail, if you can. If "mojo@netcom.UUCP" doesn't work,
use "netcom!mojo@apple.COM".
