< Nami nami nami ... > I finally visited my friendly neighbourhood VW dealer yesterday; here are some previously-unpublished things I noted: Golf: ----- - One model only; no L, LS or GL - Six colours: white, dark red, beige, gold, silver & blue metallic - 175/70SR13s (not 155SR13s) on all gas models - Same headlights as last year, except sealed-beam halogen - 98% equivalent to European models - GTI will likely have aero-type Pirelli wheels (flat mags with Pirelli 'P'-shape holes around the edge) - All models have the 90 hp '84 GTI engine (except diesel) - Compression ratio up from 8.5 (84 GTI) to 9.0 Jetta: ------ - 3 models: base, GL, and Carat - Carat is loaded to the gills - VERY similar to the Golf in interior design, but more options - Carat will have the new GTI engine, others the 90 hp Prices: ------- - Golf $ 8495 - Jetta $ 9495 - Jetta GL $10495 (approx) - Jetta Carat $15000 (approx) - GTI $11495 *** WARNING: PRICES ARE IN HOSERBUCKS --- TO CONVERT TO U.S. PRICES MULTIPLY *** BY 0.75 The Rabbit Convertible is now called the Golf Cabriolet; no changes there or with Scirocco (except that the Scirocco B-pillar is blacked out). I mentionened the 70 horsie rabbit engines to a couple of Norwegians on my floor, and they looked at me kinda funny. It took them a while to believe me when I told them that the GTI only had 80--they're used to 120 & 130, or something like that. He also mentioned driving the European version of the Fiat Estrada--with a 120hp engine. Hmm. rick
