[comp.windows.ms] CodeView Hardware

Someone in an earlier article wrote that he had to put his ATI VGA into
EGA mode to use it together with CodeView for Windows development.

This is not true for all VGA cards. I use a V7 VEGA VGA at work and a
Paradise VGA-1024 at home together with a Hercules in each machine. I
have no restricions on VGA modes, I can even debug 1024x768x16 (on the PVGA).

One restriction *is* that the VGA *text* mode memory is put into 8-bit
mode when a Hercules is detected by the VGA BIOS. But this does not
apply to the graphics memory at A000 which is accessed 16-bit wide.
