I own a one-year old Gateway 2000 20 Mhz 386 and had problem running
Win3 in enhanced mode... Gateway told me that it would cost me $250
to replace the mb...
There is a better way. I called Hawk Computers, maker of Gene II mb,
and they told me that all it takes is a new PAL on the 8meg memory board,
and they will send it to me for free.
I received it a few days ago and pop it in - and it works! I can run
application like normal people now! I have plenty of memory and
'Unrecoverable Application Error' doesn't come up any more.
A small problem with DOS programs though... The computer hangs
when I try to start a DOS program and occasionally gives me a scsi
device parity error... Any ideas? This is really not a big problem
since I don't plan to run DOS program under windows... they belong
to DesqView.
Hawk Computers' number is (408) 436-8999 if anybody need to get a hold
of them.
