------- Hi, I worked with X on workstation and liked windows environment. So, I bought windows 3 for my PC: 386, 16Mhz, 2M of RAM. I installed windows: it recognized 386, put himem.sys and smartdrive in my config.sys, recognized VGA, mouse ... It didn't run. It comes up with initial window than blank and then displays left upper quarter of the initial screen over my entire screen for a second or so. Aftr that it reboots (cold) my machine. Running it as win /s gives the same result. win /r goes to initial screen, blank, message: ram parity error offending address 0.0 so I have to reboot the machine. Well, I took out himem.sys and the smartdrive from config.sys and now it works (only in real mode of course). I have a 386 machine and I want speed. By the way, my motherboard is DIGIS-386 and VGA card is called DVGA (there is no driver that is specific for windows 3 but it runs in real mode). With himem.sys and smartdrive it has no problem loading them. I think it takes 64K or something like that for himem.sys and smartdrive gets something more than 900K. I read the manual. Says nothing about this. I checked the basic 640K memory, as well as memory above 1M with RAMTEST - chips seem to be OK. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Neb
