[comp.windows.ms] Looking for Vega VGA 800x600 Driver.

alanr@tekigm2.MEN.TEK.COM (Alan N Rovner) (08/08/90)

The subject line says almost all of it. I have a Vega VGA (8 bit) video card
that runs fine in the standard 640x480 VGA mode, but I would love to fire it
up in the 800x600 mode. Does anyone know if Video 7 (or whatever their new
name is) has such a driver for Windows 3.0?

Also, is there such an item as a screen blanker that runs under Windows? I do
use one under DOS that does indeed blank the Windows screen, but I found out
the hard way that you can't unblank the screen without rebooting :-(.

Thanks in advance for any info,
Al Rovner,

Yes, there is a driver for 800x600 for the Vega Vega which I just finished
a week or two ago. It'll be formally released next week, at which
point you should be able to get it from our technical support group at
(800) 248-1850. If you're in a hurry, there might also be a beta
version up on the Video Seven Bulletin Board, at (415) 656-0503, with
a filename of something like V760016.DRV (Video-7 600 line 16 color
driver). The beta version has a little bug which occassionally causes
the cursor to be trashed after coming back from a full-screen
non-Windows app, but otherwise should work fine.

Microsoft has written a little program called "Winker" which does
this. I'm not quite sure where you get it from, but if you call
Microsoft Customer Support and bug them enough, maybe they'll send you
a copy.
