Help ! I am having some problem with ATI VGA Wonder's Windows 3.0 driver. I run Windows in 386 enhanced mode. Now, I got the driver home last night. Follow the instruction to install it. Didn't work. When the setup program reach the end, it complains saying that, "Cannot change SYSTEM.INI; Delete WINVER.COM and install Windows again.". I am not about to try that because That means re-installing Windows over again. So I looked around and found 3 files really useful on the ATI driver disks: WIN-54B.DRV, WIN-55B.DRV and VDDVGA.386. Now, I have no problem with copying WIN-54B.DRV over my VGA.DRV under the SYSTEM directory. Windows would fire up in 800x600 mode. All's fine until I open a DOS window. Apparently, that caused the VGA Wonder to change mode and flicker like hell. The screen also got squashed in about 3/4 of an inch from both left and right sides. Everything else still works ! So, what gives ! By the way, I can figure out how to use VDDVGA.386. Am I missing something ? I am getting disappointed with ATI more and more. They still haven't send me the driver disks I requested from them after failing to download it from their BBS. Then, they have this setup sequence which obviously didn't work. And they don't include info to tell you what to do if the setup sequence screw up. At least tell me how VDDVGA.386 can be used. Now, I have to turn to the net for help. Thanks in advance. If the drivers are in the WIN directory they will show up on the menu, then select the one you want. I thought the installation was simple, and had the drivers working beautifully within minutes. PS if you notice flickering around the scroll bars, change the color of the scroll bars to something solid. Rob Murtha rmurtha@voyager.lotus.com

I have an ATI VGA Wonder and have been running Windows just fine without any of the special drivers. I just ran the Windows setup and selected VGA as the monitor type. Do I gain something by using the drivers that one can get from ATI? Jim jmann@es.stratus.com

Basically, if your monitor can support it, then ATI's drivers will allow your VGA Wonder card to do 800x600x16, or 1024x768x16. (The VGA driver supplied with Windows does 640x480x16). ATI says that they are 'working' on the 256 color drivers, but no release date as yet.
