Could anyone explain the following behavior: I change the Windows 3.0 video driver from the default VGA to a driver from the "Other" category. The setup seems to go smoothly, except that setup.exe puts the line: device=c:\windows\ega.sys in my config.sys file. In the first place, why is it adding that line (ega.sys) when I am dealing with vga drivers? There *is* no file c:\windows\ega.sys, so when the machine boots it complains. Do I really need this file to run certain vga drivers, and if so, where can I get it? It appears on the Win3.0 installation disks as ega.sy$, and having compared the sizes of himem.sys on my hard-disk and himem.sy$ on the installation disks, I am led to believe that .sy$ files are compressed or encrypted in some way. dale wyttenbach wytten@cs.umn.edu
