Having delved through the documentation which came with my Win3 SDK, I can only say... Charles Petzold, where are you? Please update your "Programming Windows" volume real soon. We miss you. The manuals with the SDK aren't bad, but there are no examples on how to use functions in the Reference Manual. If a function isn't covered in the Guide To Programming, you're left to your own devices, and the examples in the Guide are necessarily simple. For example, the Solitare Game (great program) displays help on the bottom line of the main window as you highlight each Menu option. I assume that this is being handled by an Owner Draw Menu, but the Guide has no such example. The Reference Volume 2 under CONTROL states that Edit controls use the fixed pitch system font only, Volume 1 under WM_CREATE states that Edit controls use the variable pitch system font, and that you can specify the font by sending a message to the window. Once again, the examples in the Guide are simplistic, and don't allude to any of the neatness possible with stock controls. I guess what I really want is an Advanced Guide To Programming, or a Tips And Techniques. Are there any journals dedicated to such? I've seen the Microsoft Journal, and the articles are generally very good, but at the moment the OS/2 articles aren't of interest to me. Does Microsoft have a Windows Only journal? Documenting a system as complex as Windows is a daunting job, and I intend no criticism of the folks at Microsoft's tech pubs, we just need more... John Reynolds reyn@rwsys.lonestar.org
