[net.auto] NJ SAFETYBELTS

dmf@whuxi.UUCP (10/25/84)

  for net.joiseyers:

When and if they pass the mandatory safetybelt law, are OUR

wonderful insurance companies going to make a significant deduction

to our auto insurance -- or weazel out of it some how:

                      What color are your safetybelts

                      What is their material content

No credit for "designer" safety belts

                       etc., etc..

        Can you picture it?

If the seatbelt law passes I believe the insurance companys
will not lower our rates.

There is no motivation for them to drop rates. I propose
the state of nj drop the requirement to carry insurance,
doing this will create competition between companys
with the outcome being lower rates.

I'm sure all you bleeding heart liberals will be all over
this proposal.

I'm 26, unmarried and live in the San Francisco bay area (Santa Clara).
My premium for 100/100 is $424 per year, with a 25% rebate at the
end of the year for a net premium of $318. My insurance company is
Amica, which was top rated in the Sept 1984 issue of Consumer Reports,
for what that's worth. I've never filed a claim against them so I don't
know how good they are at settling but I think their non-claim service
is quite good.

I wonder what others in my area pay.
