Well, having recently posted some software to the net, the plight of the shareware software author has begun to hit home. I've been reading the posting about folks angry with crippleware and nagware. All I can come up with is that if users would register their software, authors would not cripple or nag. Having sent builder through to version 2.1, I am not inclined to actually post version 3.0. In the time that it has been available, I have seen it spread across the ftp archive sites. This does not really indicate anything except that people have downloaded it from one site and uploaded it to another. I am working on the premis that they look at the software before they upload it. This means that a few folks have copies. Do they use them? Do they like them? What do they want? Now, if you have read the documentation to builder, I was very vague on registration. Basically, I said, "if you like it...Let me know." No one has said a thing. Now as a developer, I have found builder invaluable. I am particularly fond of version 3 which behaves very similar to make. BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT EVERYONE ELSE WANTS... and it is odd, the gas bills and the phone bills and the (etc) don't get paid by themselves. The programs will get written. wsh will be out soon. But I am beginning to feel supportive of the unicom folks and the nagware folks. So, basically, after all this ranting. If you like the software, let me know so that I don't keep fretting that I have let this awful code of mine slip out and that everyone is snickering... even we bitheads like to hear something... ciao jeff ps. thanks for listening, I feel a lot better now. Look for version 3 of Builder and version 1 of wsh in about a week. -- Jeff Watkins gt3070b@prism.gatech.edu Convergent Media Systems (404) 315-0105 voice (404) 315-0231 data "I speak for no-one.
