[comp.windows.ms] Looking for > 1024 by 768

weiman@jargon.whoi.edu (Bob Weiman) (08/31/90)

just got a 19 inch Nec Multisync 5D monitor that supports up to
1280 by 1024 resolution. I would like to use it with Windows at a
higher resolution than 1024 by 768. Does anyone know of board
that sells for a reasonable price. With that many pixels I would
want to get a coprocessor (i.e TI 340XX) board. A Windows 3.0
driver is essential. I have seen the Hercules Graphics Station
board advertised for less than $900, but it only goes to 1024 by
768. Besides, last time I called Hercules they expected to
release the windows driver REAL SOON, whenever that is.

Anyone got a suggestion ???

Try the Number Nine Graphics board. You can get a 1280x1024 with 16 colors
plus everything else in 256 colors for around 2000. It has a ti34010 onboard.

There are cheaper upgradable models available.

At the risk of making a blatant plug:
HP sells a card called the IGC-20 which uses a TI 34020 and will
take you up to 1280x1024x256 colors. The base model lists at
roughly $2500 (LIST price, NOT STREET price, which is sure to
be significantly lower). To run at 1280x1024x256, you would also
need to buy an extra 1MB of VRAM. (Which is also cheaper if you
circumvent HP).
