[comp.windows.ms] DEST PC Scan 1000 software

icking@gmdzi.UUCP (Werner Icking) (08/30/90)

I have a DEST PC Scan 1000 and it worked with different programs like
DEST Publish Pac V2.0, DEST Text Pac V2.3, PC-Paintbrush+ V1.20, ...

Now I have changed to DOS Version 4.0 and Windows Version 3 and all these
programmes do not work for different reasons. Either they require Windows
Version 1 (yes, ONE) which will not run under DOS 4.0, or they make problems
when I try to run them under the control of Windows 3 etc.

In addition I was told, that the DEST-company does not exist anymore. I got
the advice to throw the scanner away and buy a new one and new software and ...

Has anybody a better solution for my problem which does not require to throw a
fully functioning scanner away? Does anybody know whether this scanner is
compatible to another scanner, which has support? Is any software for this
scanner available which will run under DOS 4.0 and Windows 3?

You might try contacting New Dest (yes, nudist) in San Jose. I'm not sure of
the address but you can call information (are code 408). Just be sure to spell
it to them as I have found the info operators to not have a sense of humor.

Coincidentaly; I just got a mailing from the New DEST company. The address, etc. is:

	New DEST Corporation
	1015 East Brokaw Road
	San Jose CA 95131
	phone - 408 436-2700

They have a whole series of scanners and programs and interface boards listed (too many to
type in here) ranging from $75 to $2,145 for a cable to a complete setup (sans pc of course). They also list the
PC Scan 100 as part of the mailing.
