I have been looking around for a car for the winter. I have found a 1984 VW Rabbit deisel. Now I know that deisels don't particularly like cold weather. I was wondering, though, what gadgets are available to alleviate this problem. In particular, ones that don't require plugging into an external power outlet. I appreciate any info anyone has about this or anything else about this car in general. ken bass linus!kbb

Short of plugging the block heater in the best I have found is to have a very (rpt. very) good battery. Should the engine not start on the first try then you will have used energy from the battery for about 60 seconds of glow plugs and 2 tries at the starter. I put a Sears Die Hard in the end of last winter after I developed a 20 degree battery (it worked when the temp. was over 20). Larry ihnp4!tellab1!extel!larry
