Does anyone in netland have any experience with the MSoft VBT course for Fundamentals of Microsoft Windows Programming? The new 3.0 version is $3000. Unfortunately, they don't have a demo tape available for inspection (not until Nov) and we need to make a purchase decision VERY soon. Any pro's or con's? Anyone have experience with other VBT courses which they sell? Being that it is Microsoft I'm certain that the course is high quality - after all I use C 6.0 (ha!!) I have been going over the video course this week. I had a slightly different reaction to it than the other people in my group (who are also going through the video this week). I've been working with Win3 for a little while now, getting my feet wet with books and examples from the SDK, the others hadn't. I found that I could view all the tapes straight through, get the gist, and then go back and do the labs (there's lots of them) fairly easily. The others in my group got part way through the second tape and got into a 'fuzzy' area and decided to go through the the traditional manner, view part of the tape, do the lab, continue the tape... Anyway, to get to more specifics: Some of the labs have mistakes in them. None of them are too major, but they are there just the same. The lab book asks a lot of questions, but there is no place in the tapes or workbook that answers some of them. There is no 'answers' section either. The guy on the tape looks like Dave Thomas from SCTV and sounds like George Bush. (That last comment is accurate but doesn't help you much) The tape seems to be teaching the guys in my group a lot. I would guess that if you have less than 3-4 months of Win3 programming skills you would probably benefit. If you've had the opportunity to get any substantive program working by studying the examples in the SDK (limited as they are) then I would suggest you get the video for the second course (or take the second course). We've opted for the latter but it's a little ways off. I don't know if that was any help. If you have any specific questions (about the video course, not Win3-I haven't learned THAT much yet) by all means e-mail me. al1 "Time is nature's way of keeping everything from happening at once."
