We just received Actor 3.0. It looks very nice, EXCEPT it looks like it is going to be a pain to get it to access a Gupta database. The doc says to call a DLL, or create a user-defined primitive. Gupta does not provide a DLL (just a regular C API library). The Actor doc suggests that user-defined primitives are best done in Assembler, because C's stack usage can conflict with Actor. Is anyone out there using Actor with a DBMS? We are open to using any DBMS that can provide a gateway to DB2 on the mainframe (such as Gupta, or Sybase). I asked the Whitewater Group about this, and their response was "We'll be happy to write one for you -- as a contract programming assignment! -- Kevin Kleinfelter @ Dun and Bradstreet Software, Inc (404) 239-2347 {emory,gatech}!nanovx!msa3b!kevin "Don't hold your finger on the button if the motor ain't goin' roundy-roundy."
