[comp.windows.ms] Actor vs DBMS

kevin@msa3b.UUCP (Kevin P. Kleinfelter) (09/28/90)

We just received Actor 3.0. It looks very nice, EXCEPT it looks like it is
going to be a pain to get it to access a Gupta database.
The doc says to call a DLL, or create a user-defined primitive.
Gupta does not provide a DLL (just a regular C API library). The Actor
doc suggests that user-defined primitives are best done in Assembler,
because C's stack usage can conflict with Actor.

Is anyone out there using Actor with a DBMS? We are open to using any
DBMS that can provide a gateway to DB2 on the mainframe (such as Gupta,
or Sybase).

I asked the Whitewater Group about this, and their response was "We'll be
happy to write one for you -- as a contract programming assignment!
