[comp.windows.ms] Windows and os2 Comp.box

d88-sak@dront.nada.kth.se (Sebastian ]kerman) (10/04/90)

Hi fellows,
I'm having trouble with Compatibility box and Windows 3.0. I know this
question's right place is in Comp.os.os2 but nobody seems to be reading
that newsgroup anymoore (Tells it about os2 future), so I better ask it
here too.
Question> Is there a way of telling os2/PM to let go of my mouse for use
in Comp.box ? Do I really have to reconfigure (change config.sys, and reboot)
everytime I want to use my mouse in Windows ? If so, OS2 stinks even more
than I thought. (I'd rather run "someware" else than OS2:-)

There are many people reading comp.os.os2 (including me). But I did not
see your question showing up there!!

In order to let Windows in the compatibility box use the mouse, you have
to configure *Windows* for standard VGA rather than some super VGA mode.
OS/2 knows about super VGA if you have a driver for PM, but it always
supports only standard IBM video modes for the compatibility box. You
may have noticed, when using a super VGA driver for Windows in the
comp.box that the screen is not restored properly when switching from
Windows back to PM and then again to the comp.box.

I am using Windows 3.0 sometimes (but rarely) in the OS/2 DOS box and
the mouse works, when Windows is configured for 640x480 standard VGA
mode.
