The Nec Graphics Engine in its 256 color form can be gotten for about $800
and in its 16 color form for about $600. (Last I heard several months ago).

I have a NEC Graphics Engine (actually made by GSS of Beaverton) and I am
quite happy with it running Windows 3.0. I can't give you any numbers such
as "grafstones" or the like, but I have had several people comment on the
speed of text and window repaints, and it is the fastest platform for
Windows I have used (VGA, 8514). It comes with a win3.0 mini-app that
allows you to change configuration information, which is really just a
nice way to edit win.ini.

I also have a GIF viewer and a driver for Word Perfect 5.1 that doesn't
work with the latest "mini" release. Oh, the DGIS driver is compatible
with 386-to-the-Max.

What I wish I had was a driver for Deluxe Paint III! :-(
