[comp.windows.ms] error in wnqvt436.zip

wew@naucse.cse.nau.edu (Bill Wilson) (10/05/90)

The wnqvt436.zip file on cica.cica.indiana.edu is corrupted.
I tried to ftp and download it (yes all in binary mode) and
pkunzip indicates that it is corrupted. Can someone put
a good copy of the zip file out there?

I also noticed the wnqvt436.zip was corrupted. I tried to download it
several times using different methods but the result was always the
same: the zip was not decompressable.

There is a lot of fuss about winqvt, but I found it inferior to
Window's Terminal. It supports more protocols, but so far Terminal's
xmodem, kermit and ascii transfer were sufficient. From the usability (user
interface) point of view there is no comparison (ie. Terminal is
superior).

With the exception of course that wnqvt is impossible to use, since it
insists on believing I have a US keyboard. Or insists..? It seems to be
a little hesitant. If I press SHIFT-2, on order to get a quotation mark,
Ill get "@ as a result. So, it uses MY keyboard settings AND the US-
keyboard at the same time. Needless to say, I find this somewhat annoying.

But the TERMINAL.EXE (the *German* one), which comes with the German
Windows 3, has a similar buggy behaviour: it doesn't recognize any
characters generated by pressing the AltGr key together with some other
key. This includes usefull US-ASCII characters like ~|@{[]}\ on the
German keyboard.

Terminal and Wnqvt seem to be of similar quality, here. :-(

Amusing. I have a US version, and TERMINAL.EXE works just fine together with
my keyboard. At least I think so, but I haven't been using terminal that
much. Hardly anything at all. I prefer running procomm in a window. At least
it works, and without any problems at all.

I've deleted this file from the archives since it is corrupted.
Hopefully a clean version will find its way here.

I'll be testing the other uploads that arrived while I was gone before
updating the archives here at cica.
