[comp.windows.ms] Wincomm Phone vs. Terminal

butch@uokmax.ecn.uoknor.edu (H. G. Walker) (10/17/90)

For those of you who have been having trouble getting Wincomm to dial, let me
clarify one feature which may have some of you confused. Wincomm has three
modes of operation: Terminal, Phone, and PC to PC. PC to PC is a laplink or
host type of file transfer operation. Phone sessions are simply address books
which also dial the number. NOTE: Phone sessions are not useful for connecting
to other computers. They are simply for calling other people. Terminal
sessions are used for connecting to other computers. They do terminal
emulations, file transfer, etc.

There have been several people expressing problems with getting Wincomm
to connect. One possible problem is that they may be using the Phone session
thinking that it is the phone list similar to Procomm's. It is not. Make sure
that if you are calling a computer, you use a Terminal session and not a Phone
session.

If you have questions, e-mail me. I hope that this clears up a problem
for some of you.
