Kind folks please help.
I've been a plug and play user for some time.
I don't have many software packages. The ones
I've installed have always worked the first time.
Now for Windows 3.0. Things appear to have been
installed correctly, but Paintbrush always crashes
with:
Unrecoverable Application error
Terminating current application
OK
No it's not OK, I feel MS should replace OK with 'Acknowledge'.
Anyways, I start paintbrush with no problem.
Nothing else running, no TSR's etc.
I can usually pick a tool, say filled rectangles,
and plop down as many as I want. I go to pick
another tool, say text, and wham, Unrecoverable
application error.
Not entirely reproducible! Sometimes I can
pick a few different tools and proceed as expected,
but inevitably I get thrown out.
Additionally, after receiving this message, the
other applications become infected (no I'm not
crying virus) such as notepad, card file etc,
whereby they eventually run into the 'U A E'
message after a one or two operations.
I also have problems with the clock application.
I fire it up, and sometimes it works. Sometimes
I get horizontal lines across the clock. Most
of the times some of the rectangular hour markers
are out of whack.
My system is pretty vanilla.
No name mother board with AMI bios. Never experienced
incompatabilities.
2 Meg
dos 3.30
Seagate 277R ( 2 x 32 Meg)
Adaptec controller (1372 I think)
ATI Ega Wonder card.
Logitech bus mouse.
Questions.
----------
1) The ATI proms, AMI proms and HD.sys (Adaptec driver)
are at least three years old.
Does Win3 require later versions?
2) The problem occurs with and without the Logitech mouse
software installed.
Which is recommended?
3) I've juggled config.sys and autoexec.bat to wit's end.
Is this still a good candidate?
Thanks
