Dear Neater: Yes, I was pretty overwhelmed by the prospective of the Tsjeng ET400 chip. It promised me a 1024x768 resolution and 256 colors at the same time. Unfortunately, the Optima MEGA card which uses this chip did not include a driver for MsWindows3. Hence it would not run MsWindows3 in 386 enhanced mode, or 286 protected mode. Is one of you so lucky to use any of such drivers. If so, please contact me. ............................................................................... Coert J. If so, please contact me. cica.cica.indiana.edu has a collection of Windows 3 drivers, including one for the ET4000 chip. It's in the /pub/pc/win3/video directory and is called tseng4k.zip. According to a friend, who has an Optima ET4000 card, it does work in all three modes. Wolfgang Strobl #include <std.disclaimer.hpp>

If these are the same drivers from Tseng labs dated 8-14-90, they do not work in 1024x768 enhanced mode ! All other combinations work however. -Jaz | Jack A Zucker {cwjcc,pyramid,decvax,uunet}!jaz@icd.ab.com | | Allen-Bradley Company, Inc. or ICCGCC::ZUCKER | | 747 Alpha Drive | Highland Hts., OH 44143 phone: (216) 646-4668 FAX: (216) 646-4484 |

No, these are the drivers from 05-29-90, which are called PRELIMINARY TSENG ET4000 DRIVER INSTALLATION FOR MICROSOFT WINDOWS 3.0 in the WIN30.DOC file contained in the TSENG4K.ZIP archive available on cica.cica.indiana.edu. The archive contains the following files: VDDTLI4 386 15131 05/18/90 17:30 39996 WIN30 DOC 1113 05/29/90 16:33 2176 VGA448 DRV 30805 05/18/90 15:11 70016 VGA464 DRV 35613 05/21/90 17:20 71280 VGA468 DRV 30807 05/18/90 15:16 70016 VGA478 DRV 30774 05/18/90 15:17 69984 VGACOLRX GR2 3092 05/14/90 13:57 4297 VGAMONOX GR2 3091 05/29/90 13:57 4297 SETUP INF 12910 05/29/90 15:46 50384 . According to my friend who has the Tseng MEGA VGA 1024 card with the ET4000 chip, these drivers work in all three modes on his 386 machine. My own Optima 1024 uses the Tseng ET3000 chip and is of course not supported by these drivers. Fortunately, by mixing driver parts from Eizo with driver parts from Orchid (both available on cica.cica.indiana.edu) I finally got a working 256 color driver, which runs in all three modes on *my* card. I had these drivers before upgrading to the 8-14-90 versions. The 1024x768 driver does not work in enhanced mode in either version. If you call Tseng labs (which I did) they will confirm this bug and the fact that they are working on a solution. Note that both versions are beta drivers. -Jaz | Jack A Zucker {cwjcc,pyramid,decvax,uunet}!jaz@icd.ab.com | | Allen-Bradley Company, Inc. or ICCGCC::ZUCKER | | 747 Alpha Drive | Highland Hts., OH 44143 phone: (216) 646-4668 FAX: (216) 646-4484 |

I just asked my friend who has the Tseng MEGA VGA 1024, to whom I had given the TSENG4K archive. According to him, all drivers from this archive work in all three Windows 3 modes (real, std, enhanced), on his card. Wolfgang Strobl #include <std.disclaimer.hpp>
