[comp.windows.ms] WFW Update.

WFW Users and MICROSOFT:

The following is a response to the "UPGRADE" for Word for Windows that
I got today.

If any of the following improvements already exist then, never mind...

IMPROVEMENTS:---------------------------------------------------------

1) WFW should backup your files in the background to a temp file in
the temp directory. I won't use WFW's way of backing up because I
don't want to be disturbed when I am in the middle of typing.

2) When spell checking you should be able to get suggestions more
   then once.
EX: I often misspell a word that WFW can't figure out. So I try
to spell it better in the spell checker box. After making the
change WFW won't check it or suggest anything. To get a round
this I would have to hit cancel and select spell checker again.

3) Set up your paths:
EX: I am organized. I like my files to be in a directory called
DOCUMENT on drive F. WFW always comes up with WINWORD in
drive C. It should be set to DOCUMENT on drive F when I
choose Open from the File menu.

4) WFW should have the option to have Open come up with *.* instead
   of *.DOC.

5) Custom macros should appear on the menu bar when in Short Menu
   mode.

6) The use of wild cards in Search would be nice.

** In General, Customize should include these types of settings. **
----------------------------------------------------------------------

WordPerfect does all of the above. Aren't you suppose to look at your
competition's programs in ways to improve your own.

These changes are very important to me. I love WFW but when
WordPerfect for windows comes out your gona loose a customer...

BTW: Has anyone noticed the bug in WFW when spell checking. Half way
through this page it stopped outlining the words it found wrong.

Does anyone have anything to add or comment?

-Jimmy

] I have a problem printing useing postscript. When I use
]dingbats, W4W adds extra space between that line and the following
]line and less space before the line. Microsoft said the work around
]was to add a non-breaking space. The work around dosn't work. They
]also said that the problem wasn't fixed in version 1.1. Of course
]page preview dosn't show the problem.

I had that problem too a while back.. A friend suggested a "fix" that
worked for me: replace your PSCRIPT.DRV with something newer (assuming you
are using an old version of Windows/386 2.11). On the other hand, if you
are using WfW with Windows 3.0, I'm not sure what the problem is since I
don't have any problems with that version of Windows/Dingbats/Postscript.
