So I was playing around with a number of different modifications to the standard Windows 3.0 startup screen.... I added a Mac logo with the NO circle with a slash over it... looks cute and I am doing the "no IBM" startup screen for the Mac I am using!! On my system they use the vgalogo.rle file and I used paintbrush after converting it from rle to bmp format. You have to select a different video display then re-select your video display to get it to remake win.com. Now one time after a change I started windows and it said Program too big to fit in memory. Sure enuf, win.com was 153K which is a tad to large to fit in a 64K segment as a .COM file should! I went to bed doubtinh the integrity of a Windows program that would corrupt itself but realized I was the knudge that did it. Once I forgot to save the logo file as RLE. Sure i used the rle name but I left it as a BMP and WIndows just read the huge file into win.com as it made it. I had to re-install Windows to fix this problem (anybody know of a better way?) and I just thought I might pass this little gem of my stupidity along so the next man might be wiser and more careful than I!!!
